It was originally named the Hotel General Brock, and the first hotel Opened July 1, 1929. It was purchased by the Sheraton Hotel chain, Hotel General Brock added two new plants and renamed the Sheraton Brock Hotel. In 1989, the Sheraton Brock was again renamed Skyline Brock and then again in 2001 for the Brock Plaza Hotel. The prestige of this hotel was more enhanced on 17 April 2008, when Brock Square became the Crowne Plaza Hotel Fallsview. Major General Sir Isaac Brock was originally from Guernsey, Channel Islands. Brock was the military commander of British forces and Canada during the outbreak of the First World War.
An important part of the battle between the U.S. and Britain took place along the border Falls as U.S. troops attempted to conquer what was then the British colony of Upper Canada. In the early morning of 13 October 1812, a force large American crossed the Niagara River at Queenston Heights, a point about seven miles from the falls. Its aim was to capture this high, important piece of land on the Canadian side of river. General Brock was killed leading a charge against an American position is part of the side elevations.
The British and Canadians, along with considerable help from many Native Americans, he finally won this battle, but the loss of Brock, a man much admired, was a high price to pay. His courage and his heroic death became an inspiration to Canadians during the war.
